Villa West Dance Company
The original Villa West Dance Team was designed to give students more performance opportunities. Today, our Dance Company fosters students' passion for performance, while promoting team spirit, improving technique and enhancing their overall stage presence.
We believe that performance opportunities such as competitions and conventions, when handled with professionalism and correctly without undue pressure, are a fun and exciting way for dancers to display their abilities an hard work, to be educated by seeing other dedicated students, and to become friends with well-known teachers, performers and choreographers.
Our program relies on a positive atmosphere for our faculty, dancers and their parents; it promotes a positive learning experience for all involved. Through participation in competitions, we hope to instill in our students an appreciation for other dancers, athletes, schools and programs. We are not out to beat anyone; insead we hope to motivate both students and faculty by exposing them to the highest caliber of talent available. Only then can we produce the best dancers and athletes possible.
Dance Company members take part in an accelerated program of study, perform locally and compete regionally and nationally. New members (ages 5 & up) are selected each season.
Auditions
Auditions are held annually, in late spring. Selection as a member of Company is NOT automatic after a certain number of years of dancing. Instead, it is based on evidence of natural dance potential, hard work and concentration in class. A good attitude towards correction and towards classmates is essential. A high level of family support; as evidence by near-perfect attendance, little or no tardiness are crucial to succeeding as an competitive team member. Participation in the Competition Team is a commitment.
Commitment
Dance Company members demonstrate their commitment to teamwork by continued training and stregthening of core skills. Dance Company students are required to continue lessons during the six-week summer workshop and additionally are required to attend the Summer Intensive in August to begin choreography for next years season. Students are required to maintain enrollment in their Dance Combination Class.
An informational parents meeting will be held in summer during the Summer Workshop. The Dance Company season is a year long commitment; beginning with learning choreography at the Summer Intensive, continuing through the Fall Session, 3-4 Regional Competitions in the spring, and ending with a Nationals every other year in June/July. Auditions for the Dance Company are held each Spring. If you have missed this year's dance company auditions, we recommend a combination class this year to prepare for next year's auditions.

Participation in the Competition Team gives young students a better understanding of commitment by offering them the chance to learn, experience the spirit of teamwork, and understand what hard work can accomplish.
