Benefits of Dance Training:

There are many benefits that the study of dance provides to students of all ages. Most students will not go on to be professionals, but dance educators are teaching concepts that will aid in the healthy development of the total child.

CLASSES OFFERED 2011-2012!


BALLET

The study of ballet serves to enhance technical form, alignment, placement, and posture. It is also beneficial for providing muscle strength, balance, coordination, and an understanding of basic dance principles.


DRESS CODE: Ballet students only wear a leotard (any solid color and style) and tights (any solid color and either footed or footless). NOTE: Dancers in Intermediate and Advanced Levels are REQUIRED to wear BLACK color leotards. Tank tops, shorts or additional coverings are NOT permitted. Pink leather or canvas ballet shoes are required.



TAP

Tap study enhances rhythmic dynamics, speed and agility of movement.


DRESS CODE: Leotard, tights and dance shorts or dance pants(shorts and pants must be form-fitting lycra athletic wear). Street clothes are NOT permitted. Tan tap shoes are required.



MODERN

Modern dance aids in building a strong center, enhances movement dynamics, and contributes to developing a strong inner connection and content to the movement.



LYRICAL

Lyrical dance incorporates the techniques of Ballet, Jazz and modern with a fluid quality that portrays the lyrics of the song or the quality of the music. This dance form aids in expanding the dancers emotion and quality of movement.



ACROBATICS

Acrobatics helps to enhances strength and flexibility. Acrobatics is a class that consists of limber work, tumbling, hand balancing, flexibilty, and strength training. Acrobatics can be taken individually or in conjunction with Acrobatic Gymnastics.


DRESS CODE: A leotard or biketard of choice. Tights may NOT me worn. Shorts are permitted over leotards. There are no shoes for acro, just bare feet. Positively NO JEWELRY may be worn while in class.



ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS

Acrobatic Gymnastics is a partnered sort where athletes build acrobatic skills on each other or execute dynamic tosses. Acrobatic Gymnastics requires athletes of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. It is a wonderful addition to Acrobatics class and helps to develop your child into a diverse athlete. Please see our Acrobatic Gymnastics page for more specific information regarding this sport. HIP-HOP

Hip hop uses sharp, energetic, multi-layered isolations and would facilitate the range of motion and dynamics of jazz isolations and movement.


DRESS CODE: Hip Hop students must wear a leotard. Warm-ups, sweats, dance pants or shorts allowed with form fitting tank tops over a leotard base (longer pants or tights for floor slide work suggested). Stomachs may not be exposed. Black Hip Hop Dance Sneakers are required.



BALLROOM AND SOCIAL DANCING (classes coming soon!)

These dance studies serve to enhance rhythm, posture, versatility, and body lines.



MUSICAL THEATRE (occasionally offered)

Musical Theatre is highly stylized for of dance that uses music, movement, acting, and narrative to support its form. The study of Musical Theatre helps the dancer develop facial expression and emotion.
